VIVID VI.VRANT Eye Lashes

I decided to re-read the Gothic Lolita Bible I brought at the TPC anniversary event the other day (volume 45). Seeing as I had a bit more time, I was reading a bit more thoroughly and I couldn't help but notice these lashes by VIVID VI.VRANT.

At first I thought this was just random stuff being stuck on as decoration...

But I looked at the bottom of the page and it turns out the roses were indeed part of the lashes. It really took me by surprise. These are so decorative and indulgent. I realise deep down that these lashes are a bit too OTT and costumey for me to actually wear them. To be honest, I think the stock photos look better than when you see them being worn. Is it bad that a part of me still thinks they look really cool?

After some digging, I found a website which had more of their lash designs. And they keep getting more and more impractical! How would you even go about wearing these ones? Even the simpler ones don't look that comfortable to wear.

I think my favourite lashes are these playing card inspired ones. I would love to see a harlequin themed outfit using these.

It wont come as much of a surprise that these lashes are expensive, but for those of you who are curious I found quite a few of their designs here- http://tetragrammaton.shop-pro.jp/?mode=cate&cbid=1113422&csid=0

I would never buy these lashes and I don't think they are the sort of lashes you would wear to a regular lolita meet. But I am still fascinated by them. I wish I could find some more pictures of these lashes being worn. The lashes are very indulgent. I wonder though, how simple it would be to recreate them using charms, beads and a bit of lash glue? I can't imagine that I would get a professional looking finish, but maybe somebody else out there could do a better job than I could!

I am not sure what I make of these lashes. Perhaps they verge too close to costume territory, but I could see somebody doing a photoshoot with these. For me, they are far too indulgent to wear normally. Ignoring the price for a moment, would anybody out there wear these?

Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Here in the UK one of the most discussed TV shows right now is Big Fat Gypsy weddings. It has caused a lot of controversy because it has shown girls as young as 5 gyrating their hips in revealing outfits and there have been questions about whether viewers are tuning in to laugh with or at the gypsies. They definitely live very differently from non-travelers. And don't get me started on the dating business. They do this thing called "the grab" and if a guy grabbed me and forced a kiss on me I would punch him.

But the main draw for me is the gypsy weddings. The girls wear the most ridiculous OTT dresses ever. Seriously, these dresses are HUGE. I can promise you that you have never seen wedding dresses like the ones these girls wear. Think of a Barbie doll but even bigger and more sparkly. One girl even had lights and moving butterflies on her dress. The dress maker took a fire extinguisher with her to make sure she didn't set fire to herself!

It was a cake from this weeks' episode that made me gasp. I think there are some lolitas out there who would love a cake like this-

I can't get over how huge it is! Not only is there the castle in the center, but loads of surrounding cakes, fairy lights and they have used Barbie dolls to represent the bride, groom and bridesmaids. They even used hair curlers to curl the doll's hair so it looked like the girl.

This cake is so gloriously over the top. Some would say this looks a little tacky but I have a real soft spot for this cake. Yes, a lot of viewers are tuning in to gasp at the gypsies, but the TV ratings speak for themselves. They were saying this is the most popular documentary this TV channel has ever done. It is guaranteed to leave you speechless.

HELLo Kitty?

Neo Magazine recently alerted me to this really odd website. It is basically a hate site for all the strange Hello Kitty items you can find. I quite enjoy Hello Kitty but I found this site amusing. It is worth having a look at just to see all the weird items that have been released and made by fans.

WARNING!!! This site does contain some adult content and is not suitable for work!

I don't quite understand the sheer level of Hello Kitty hatred going on here. The people here must have a lot of spare time on their hands. This site is meant to be funny so I wouldn't take it too seriously!

I should be posting a new hair post tomorrow. It took me a while because I needed to find a suitable style. I have run out of hair spray and have just had my hair cut so I needed to factor this in. Plus I am also going to start work on my next Bodyline design contest entry. I wont say what design I am planning but it is a theme close to my heart :) Sorry, I promise there will be a proper post at some point tomorrow!

Circle Lenses- yay or nay?

I have been having a massive debate with myself about whether I think circle lenses are cute or creepy. Circle lenses have become very popular amongst the lolita community because they open up the eyes and make them doll-like. Or maybe even like the eyes in Japanese animes. But it is not just lolitas that are picking up on this trend. I blame Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video...

I don't know what to make of Lady Gaga in this picture. She definitely looks like a cartoon but is this a good thing? This is probably a good example of circle lenses. There are worse images I could have chosen. EDIT- Okay, Lady Gaga's eyes were done with CGI but I am keeping the picture because it gives a similar wide eyed appearance. See! Even Lady Gaga doesn't damage her eyes with these lenses!

You need to be very careful with circle lenses. For starters they can really damage your eye sight. I am unsure if you can get circle lenses with spectacle prescriptions. I think it is a bit like trying on somebody else's glasses and if you wear these lenses for a long time then you will eventually damage the eye. Also there is a trend for getting the lenses with the biggest diameter possible. Wouldn't that make blinking and closing your eyes more difficult? Do these lenses tire out your eyes?

I am kind of curious to try circle lenses but only once just to see what they are like. The results vary from person to person. I have seen people wearing the exact same design in the past where some have looked cute and others have looked freaky. I wonder what I would look like.

There are so many designs to choose from. I have been hearing good things about a company called Geo. They seem to be one of the bigger suppliers. I am not going to go for anything crazy like flames or mecha inspired ones. I will probably just get ones that boost my natural eye colour. Super Nudy 2tone ones look like a simple option. If I ever decide to take the plunge I shall share my experiences here.
