I came to a realisation recently. As much as I love lolita, it takes over my day to day life. Every single day I check the EGL sales community, I watch discussions going on in lolita Facebook groups and I will use the word 'lolita' multiple times in conversations. I know the days that 2nd hand sellers put new stock on their websites, Saturday is Lolita Valentines day and the secrets come out on Sunday. But it is also creeping in to things that have absolutely nothing to do with lolita. I will be looking at clothes whilst out shopping and I will think 'the lace looks cheap on that', and the clothing will have absolutely nothing to do with lolita! It is like something automatically clicks in my brain and makes me look at everything as lolita shopping.
And now, I am absolutely convinced that imposing a lolita ban on myself every now and then is a good idea. It gives me the chance to spend quality time with the people I love outside of lolita rather than getting distracted. Also it is nice to not worry about my appearance! I wouldn't go for too long without lolita because then it would feel as if I was punishing myself for having something I am passionate about. But from time to time, I will have a day without lolita and I will learn to enjoy those days as well.
I realized today when I was doing some shopping I'm still in "lolita mode" even tho I haven't worn it for a long time. My eyes keeps searching for colors and patterns that wok with my lolita wardrobe rather than my casual wardrobe which i'm currently using. I'm in desperate need of warm sweater yet i keep looking for short ones "so there will be room for the skit" -.- It's insanely difficult to break these habits -.-
ReplyDeleteI think my non-lolita wardrobe has suffered as a result because I spend so long looking for loli-able stuff. I should buy some new jeans over Christmas but I doubt I will!
ReplyDeleteOh I totally do that thing about lace too! Everything on the highstreet has bad lace =[ I should probably try doing bans too. I've already been into lolita less recently, so it would be a good opportunity to avoid the internet (which I seem to spend my whole life on) and do something else instead!
ReplyDeleteThe terrible thing is, I do the 'bad lace' thing with stuff like underwear. It doesn't matter if they have bad lace because nobody is going to see it, but my brain doesn't listen! -_-
ReplyDeleteLast time I was buying clothes I tried on a pencil skirt and It looked so strange to me! I'm used to the bell or "A" shape in all my skirts... And I totally do that thing about lace too.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to not think about lace when shopping!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to get much Loli so I am happy that I don't have this issue yet xD But yes, I do agree, it's good to take breaks so that you start to hate it. And it's fine to have a certain eye when looking at clothes or accessories. It just means that Loli helped you train your eye for quality. ^^
